Mark 10:1-12 (NASB) 1 Getting up, He *went from there to the region of Judea and beyond the Jordan; crowds *gathered around Him again, and, according to His custom, He once more began to teach them.
2 Some Pharisees came up to Jesus, testing Him, and began to question Him whether it was lawful for a man to divorce a wife. 3 And He answered and said to them, \u201cWhat did Moses command you?\u201d 4 They said, \u201cMoses permitted a man TO WRITE A CERTIFICATE OF DIVORCE AND SEND her AWAY.\u201d 5 But Jesus said to them, \u201c Because of your hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment. 6 But from the beginning of creation, God MADE THEM MALE AND FEMALE. 7 FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER, 8 AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH; so they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9 What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.\u201d
10 In the house the disciples began questioning Him about this again. 11 And He *said to them, \u201cWhoever divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her; 12 and if she herself divorces her husband and marries another man, she is committing adultery.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mark 10:13-16 (NASB) 13 And they were bringing children to Him so that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked them. 14 But when Jesus saw this, He was indignant and said to them, \u201cPermit the children to come to Me; do not hinder them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15 Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all.\u201d 16 And He took them in His arms and began blessing them, laying His hands on them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mark 10:17-31 (NASB) 17 As He was setting out on a journey, a man ran up to Him and knelt before Him, and asked Him, \u201cGood Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?\u201d 18 And Jesus said to him, \u201cWhy do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone. 19 You know the commandments, \u2018DO NOT MURDER, DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY, DO NOT STEAL, DO NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS, Do not defraud, HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER.\u2019\u201d 20 And he said to Him, \u201cTeacher, I have kept all these things from my youth up.\u201d 21 Looking at him, Jesus felt a love for him and said to him, \u201cOne thing you lack: go and sell all you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.\u201d 22 But at these words he was saddened, and he went away grieving, for he was one who owned much property. 23 And Jesus, looking around, *said to His disciples, \u201cHow hard it will be for those who are wealthy to enter the kingdom of God!\u201d 24 The disciples were amazed at His words. But Jesus *answered again and *said to them, \u201cChildren, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.\u201d 26 They were even more astonished and said to Him, \u201cThen who can be saved?\u201d 27 Looking at them, Jesus *said, \u201cWith people it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God.\u201d
28 Peter began to say to Him, \u201cBehold, we have left everything and followed You.\u201d 29 Jesus said, \u201cTruly I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or farms, for My sake and for the gospel\u2019s sake, 30 but that he will receive a hundred times as much now in the present age, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and farms, along with persecutions; and in the age to come, eternal life. 31 But many who are first will be last, and the last, first.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mark 10:32-45 (NASB) 32 They were on the road going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking on ahead of them; and they were amazed, and those who followed were fearful. And again He took the twelve aside and began to tell them what was going to happen to Him, 33 saying, \u201cBehold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death and will hand Him over to the Gentiles. 34 They will mock Him and spit on Him, and scourge Him and kill Him, and three days later He will rise again.\u201d 35 James and John, the two sons of Zebedee, *came up to Jesus, saying, \u201cTeacher, we want You to do for us whatever we ask of You.\u201d 36 And He said to them, \u201cWhat do you want Me to do for you?\u201d 37 They said to Him, \u201cGrant that we may sit, one on Your right and one on Your left, in Your glory.\u201d 38 But Jesus said to them, \u201cYou do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?\u201d 39 They said to Him, \u201cWe are able.\u201d And Jesus said to them, \u201cThe cup that I drink you shall drink; and you shall be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized. 40 But to sit on My right or on My left, this is not Mine to give; but it is for those for whom it has been prepared.\u201d 41 Hearing this, the ten began to feel indignant with James and John. 42 Calling them to Himself, Jesus *said to them, \u201cYou know that those who are recognized as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them; and their great men exercise authority over them. 43 But it is not this way among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant; 44 and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mark 10:46-52 (NASB) 46 Then they *came to Jericho. And as He was leaving Jericho with His disciples and a large crowd, a blind beggar named Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the road. 47 When he heard that it was Jesus the Nazarene, he began to cry out and say, \u201cJesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!\u201d 48 Many were sternly telling him to be quiet, but he kept crying out all the more, \u201cSon of David, have mercy on me!\u201d 49 And Jesus stopped and said, \u201cCall him here.\u201d So they *called the blind man, saying to him, \u201cTake courage, stand up! He is calling for you.\u201d 50 Throwing aside his cloak, he jumped up and came to Jesus. 51 And answering him, Jesus said, \u201cWhat do you want Me to do for you?\u201d And the blind man said to Him, \u201c Rabboni, I want to regain my sight!\u201d 52 And Jesus said to him, \u201cGo; your faith has made you well.\u201d Immediately he regained his sight and began following Him on the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Deuteronomy 24:1-4 (NASB) 1 \u201cWhen a man takes a wife and marries her, and it happens that she finds no favor in his eyes because he has found some indecency in her, and he writes her a certificate of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out from his house, 2 and she leaves his house and goes and becomes another man\u2019s wife, 3 and if the latter husband turns against her and writes her a certificate of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out of his house, or if the latter husband dies who took her to be his wife, 4 then her former husband who sent her away is not allowed to take her again to be his wife, since she has been defiled; for that is an abomination before the LORD, and you shall not bring sin on the land which the LORD your God gives you as an inheritance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Deuteronomy 9:6-14 (NASB) 6 \u201cKnow, then, it is not because of your righteousness that the LORD your God is giving you this good land to possess, for you are a stubborn people. 7 Remember, do not forget how you provoked the LORD your God to wrath in the wilderness; from the day that you left the land of Egypt until you arrived at this place, you have been rebellious against the LORD. 8 Even at Horeb you provoked the LORD to wrath, and the LORD was so angry with you that He would have destroyed you. 9 When I went up to the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant which the LORD had made with you, then I remained on the mountain forty days and nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water. 10 The LORD gave me the two tablets of stone written by the finger of God; and on them were all the words which the LORD had spoken with you at the mountain from the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly. 11 It came about at the end of forty days and nights that the LORD gave me the two tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant. 12 Then the LORD said to me, \u2018Arise, go down from here quickly, for your people whom you brought out of Egypt have acted corruptly. They have quickly turned aside from the way which I commanded them; they have made a molten image for themselves.\u2019 13 The LORD spoke further to me, saying, \u2018I have seen this people, and indeed, it is a stubborn people. 14 Let Me alone, that I may destroy them and blot out their name from under heaven; and I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n
