Revelation 19

Verses 1-10

  • Review what happened in chapter 18
  • Describe the attitude of heaven at the destruction of Babylon
  • What specific traits of God do they praise? What does this indicate about the character of God.
  • Compare the reaction of heaven to this suffering and torment of Babylon to the world’s reaction to a “God that allows bad things to happen”. What does this mean to you?
  • What would justify this heavenly reaction to this destruction?
  • In Verse 5 – who do you think is calling for praise?
  • What is the responsive praise?
  • Who is the bride?
  • Consider the difference between how Babylon is described and the description of the female in verses 7 and 8?
  • What does this say about the difference between the world and this bride?
  • Verse 9 – who is the “he” in “And he said to me”
  • What does it mean to be a guest at the marriage supper? What benefit do the guests receive and why? See also Revelation 3:20.
  • Who does John bow and worship to?
  • What does the subject of his worship say?
  • Why do you think he worshipped like this? What does this mean to you and your worship?

Verses 11-16

  • What does it mean that he saw the heavens open up?
  • Who do you think is riding the horse – see Isaiah 11 1-5
  • How does He judge and make war? How does this affect your perception of judgement and war?
  • How is Jesus described in Verses 12 and 13 – what do these symbols point to in His character?
  • In verse 14 – who is leading and who is following. What does tell you about the character of Jesus?
  • Verse 15 – Revelations 1:16 gives more evidence for the rider of the horse.
  • What have we seen so far of the fierceness of the wrath of God?
  • What do you think it means to have His name written on his garment and on is leg?

Verses 17-

  • Describe the angel in verse 17.
  • What does the angel command the birds to do? Jer 7:30-33
  • Who will serve as dinner for the birds? Will there be any spared?
  • Who is lined up to fight against Jesus and His army?
  • Does it say that any nation of earth will fight alongside or with Jesus?
  • What happened to the beast and the prophet? Note that the destruction of Babylon is completely separate from the defeat of Satan and the armies of the earth.
  • What does it mean to you that Satan and the prophet are both thrown into a burning lake?
  • What happened to the rest? Who were the rest?
  • What does this defeat mean to you as a Christian?
  • How does it affect the way you live your life?
