Matthew 5:1-12

  1. Blessed – what does this mean to you.
  2. Poor in Spirit – What does this mean to you?
    1. 2 Chronicles 7,14:
    2. 2 Chronicles 33:12,19,23; 34:27
    3. Psalms 34:18- The LORD is close to the brokenhearted, saves those whose spirit is crushed.
    4. Psalms 51:17-My sacrifice, God, is a broken spirit; God, do not spurn a broken, humbled heart.
  3. They who mourn – what does that mean to you?
    1. Psalms 6:1-9, 13, 126:5,6
    2. 2 Corinthians 7:9-10
  4. Blessed are the Merciful – what does it mean to be Merciful- what is their reward?
  5. Blessed are the clean of heart – what does it mean to be clean of heart – what is their reward?
  6. Blessed are the peacemakers – what does it mean to be a peacemaker – what is their reward?
  7. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake – what does this mean – what is their reward?
    1. What forms of persecution are we to expect?

Matthew 5:13-16

  1. What is the salt of the earth – what is the nature of salt?
  2. What is the light of the world – where have we heard light referenced before and how?
    1. Why should the light be seen?
    2. Do you show your light? If so, how? If no, will you?
  3. What is Jesus perspective on the laws?
    1. What part of the law and the prophets does he support?
    2. What time frame does Jesus give for the Laws and the Prophets.

Matthew 5:17-48

  1. What kind of righteousness must we have to enter heaven?
  2. 21 – How does Jesus refine the law of “Thou shalt not kill” – give examples.
    1. Application of the law.
    2. Attitude before offering sacrifices to God.
  3. 27 – How does Jesus refine the law of adultery?
    1. How serious should we consider adultery?
    2. 31 – How about the case for divorce?
  4. 33 – Oaths – swearing to uphold your word…
  5. 38 – An eye for an eye – tooth for a tooth
  6. 43 – love neighbor, hate your enemy
  7. So be Perfect – How can we achieve this?
