John 18: 1-13

  1. Review what things Jesus had spoken to the disciples.
  2. Where is this taking place?
  3. Who is involved?
  4. What happens when Jesus tells them who he is?
  5. Reflect on this and determine how it has significance to you?
  6. The second time ,when Jesus admits who he is – what is his attitude: sadness, remorse?
  7. What was the disciple’s reaction to Jesus being taken? Contrast the two reactions. What does this reveal about the nature of man? The nature of Jesus?
  8. What does Jesus say to Peter after he attacks one of the guards? What does this reveal about his nature?
  9. Why did the soldiers lead Jesus to Annas?

John 18:14-24

  1. What is Caiaphas’ nature?
  2. Who do you think were the two disciples that went with Jesus?
  3. What is the significance of Peter’s invitation to be with Jesus for the interview with Annas? Peter outside with the other disciple inside…
  4. Describe the setting for Jesus and the one disciple compared with Peter’s setting during the Annas interview.
  5. Discuss why the officer struck Jesus?
  6. What did Jesus say to the guard who struck him? What does this reveal about his nature?
  7. Why did Annas send Jesus away so abruptly?

John 18:25-27

  1. Consider the first requests of Peter? How dangerous was this one?
  2. Consider the second requester – how dangerous was this one?
  3. What would you have done?

John 18:28

  1. Describe the setting? Where are the accusers? Where are Pilate and Jesus?
  2. What do the accusers answer when Pilate requests the accusations? What does this tell you of their nature?
  3. Why don’t the Jews kill Jesus themselves?
  4. What was Pilate trying to get Jesus to admit? Why?
  5. What was Jesus response?
  6. How does Jesus demonstrate that his Kingdom is not of this world?
  7. Consider Jesus answer about why he was born.
  8. Consider Pilate’s response regarding the Truth – what does mean to you?
  9. What was Pilate’s ultimate verdict?
